  • Sauce pan or a kettle to boil water
  • Chopping boadicea to cut and mince ginger
  • Sieve or a Strainer
  • Vacuum flask
  • Tea cups or mugs

Ingredients

Start by gathering all your ingredients

  • 2-3 Fresh ginger roots
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 cups of Milk of your choice( almond, coconut etc)
  • 4 Kenyan tea bags(Kenyan Black tea)
  • 2 tablespoons of Honey and lemon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of Sugar(optional)

How to prepare ginger

  • Wash the ginger roots thoroughly under running water to remove dirt.
  • Peel off the ginger and finely chop or grate it. You may also mince using a mortar and pestle into a ginger paste.

Instructions

  1. Start by peeling and finely grating fresh ginger. You’ll need approximately 2-3 teaspoons of grated ginger per cup of tea, but you can adjust the amount to suit your taste.
  2. Boil water and milk in a kettle or a saucepan. For each cup of tea, you’ll typically use about 1 cup of water and 1 cup of milk in the ratio of 1:1
  3. Place the grated ginger in a teapot or directly into the boiling water. Allow it to steep for 5 minutes, depending on how strong you want the ginger flavor to be.
  4. Add the Kenyan black tea bags to the ginger-infused water. One tea bag per cup of water is the usual ratio. Allow the tea to steep for an additional 3 minutes or according to the tea’s instructions.
  5. Remove the tea bags, and if desired, add milk to your taste. Some people prefer their tangawizi tea with milk, while others like it plain.
  6. Sweeten the tea with sugar or honey according to your preference. Start with 1-2 teaspoons and adjust as needed.
